Service Description

The Concept Rioja is one of the world's most recognised wine names — and one of the most misunderstood. This chapter is a direct conversation between two generations of the same region: the traditional Rioja that built its reputation over a century, and the bold, modern new wave that is redefining it today. Hosted with particular pride by Lilla Fülöp, newly accredited Rioja Educator by the Consejo Regulador Rioja, this chapter is as personal as it is educational. Twelve wines from across all three sub-regions — Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental — are presented in pairs, each pair telling a different part of the same story. The food is unapologetically Spanish. Traditional tapas-style pinchos, each dish paired with two wines side by side, inviting guests to compare, contrast and decide for themselves which wine belongs at the table. The Wines Twelve wines representing the full diversity of Rioja — sparkling, white, rosado and red, traditional and new wave — across all three sub-regions The Format Seated tasting with a guided, paired comparison format. Six tapas-style pinchos are placed on the table — each one slightly more generous than a single bite, enough to savour alongside two wines simultaneously. Guests receive both wines of each pair at the same time. The hosts guide the room through each pairing, explaining the stylistic contrast and inviting guests to explore which wine works better with the food — and why. The answer is never the same for everyone. The goal is to bring guests to Rioja — its landscape, its people, its kitchens — without leaving Zürich. What Guests Will Learn The three sub-regions of Rioja and how they differ The ageing classifications — Joven, Crianza, Reserva, Gran Reserva The new wave of Rioja: Garnacha, Tempranillo Blanco, single vineyards and minimal intervention How to compare traditional and modern styles side by side How Rioja pairs with its own regional cuisine The Details Format: Seated guided tasting with comparative pairing Wines: 12 wines across all three Rioja sub-regions Food: 6 tapas-style pinchos, each paired with 2 wines Duration: Approximately 2.5 – 3 hours Level: Accessible to intermediate Language: English Hosted by: - Lilla Fülöp, Certified Rioja Educator - Tony Lécuroux, Master Sommelier
